Thunderbird Turquoise Ring
Thunderbird turquoise is one of my most favorite turquoise types to make jewelry with.
The Thunderbird Turquoise Mine is situated in Nevada, specifically in Esmeralda County, about 20 miles south of the Lone Mountain Turquoise Mine.
The mine was originally worked by J.D. Mauppin and Lynn Otteson. Lynn Otteson later revisited the mine with his sons, Danny and Tristan, which led to the re-staking of the claim and the name "Thunderbird".
Thunderbird turquoise is a rare and valuable piece, especially if it's high-quality material with the characteristic matrix as it is here.
This particular Thunderbird turquoise came directly from the Otteson brothers to my studio.
It is set in heavier gauge sterling silver.
